Texas Rangers at Seattle Mariners

SEATTLE (Interstat) — The Texas Rangers will send Cody Bradford to the mound Wednesday afternoon trying to build on a blowout victory as they continue a three-game series against the Seattle Mariners at T-Mobile Park.

Bradford enters with an 0-4 record. Texas is 72-73, while Seattle is 67-78. Texas has won two straight. The forecast calls for clear skies and a game-time temperature of 73 degrees.

Danny Jansen is the Texas player to watch. The catcher went 2 for 4 with a home run and four RBIs in Tuesday’s 10-5 win over Seattle. Over his past 10 games, Jansen has three home runs and eight RBIs while batting .233 (7 for 30). He went 2 for 4 with a homer and three RBIs against the Chicago White Sox on Aug. 25, then added a solo homer at Milwaukee on Aug. 28. Jansen has been inconsistent at times, but his power has made him a threat in the middle of the Texas lineup.

Carlos Vargas is Seattle’s player to watch. The right-hander has allowed four earned runs over his past eight appearances, covering 10 2/3 innings, while striking out 10. He has held opponents scoreless in five of those eight outings and pitched 1 1/3 hitless innings against Texas on Tuesday. He threw two scoreless innings with three strikeouts against Philadelphia on Aug. 26. Vargas has allowed one earned run in his past three appearances. He has been one of the Mariners’ most reliable arms out of the bullpen recently.

Texas has won seven of 10 meetings this season, including Tuesday’s series opener. The Rangers won both games in Arlington on April 7-8, then took three of four at home from Seattle on July 24-27. Seattle won two of three when the teams met April 17-19 in Seattle. Texas has won four of the past five meetings. The Rangers have won six of their past 11 games, while Seattle has dropped eight of its past 11. The Rangers are 6-4 in their last 10 games.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a 5-4 Texas victory. However, Interstat’s ELO system gives Seattle a 52.90 percent chance to win. Seattle has been installed as a -1.5 favorite, and the over/under is 7.5.

Both teams are in the middle of a three-game series that concludes Thursday. Following Thursday’s series finale, Texas travels to Arizona for a three-game series from Sept. 11-13. Seattle will visit the Athletics for three games from Sept. 11-13. Texas opens a homestand against Boston on Sept. 15, while Seattle is scheduled to visit the Los Angeles Angels on Sept. 14.
