Cincinnati Reds at Los Angeles Dodgers

LOS ANGELES (Interstat) — The Cincinnati Reds will look to salvage the final game of a three-game series when they face the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday night at Dodger Stadium.

Cincinnati (69-76) has lost the first two games of the series, falling 6-3 on Monday and 3-2 on Tuesday. The Reds have won four of their past seven games. The Dodgers (88-57) have won six of their past eight games and are 31 games above .500.

Right-hander Rhett Lowder (6-9) is scheduled to start for Cincinnati. He will be opposed by Dodgers right-hander Yoshinobu Yamamoto (12-8). Yamamoto will try to help Los Angeles complete the sweep. The Dodgers have outscored the Reds 9-5 in the first two games. The game-time forecast calls for clear skies and a temperature of 84 degrees.

Reds shortstop Elly De La Cruz has been on a tear. He has homered in four consecutive games and collected multiple hits in five straight contests. On Tuesday, he went 2 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs. On Monday, he was 2 for 4 with a homer and one RBI. He also went 2 for 4 with a home run and four RBIs against Milwaukee on Sept. 6. On Sept. 5, he had two hits and a homer. On Sept. 4, he went 3 for 5 with an RBI. De La Cruz has been the Reds’ most productive offensive player during the series.

For the Dodgers, Tarik Skubal has been dominant. He earned the win Tuesday against Cincinnati, allowing two earned runs over 7 1/3 innings with five strikeouts. Skubal has won each of his past four decisions. He allowed two earned runs over 5 2/3 innings against St. Louis on Sept. 3, one earned run over six innings at Detroit on Aug. 28, and three earned runs over seven innings against Pittsburgh on Aug. 22, when he struck out 11. Skubal has struck out at least five batters in each of his past five starts. He is not the probable starter for Wednesday, but he has been a key part of the Dodgers’ pitching staff.

Los Angeles has been installed as a -1.5 run favorite. The over/under is 8.5. Interstat’s game simulator projects a final score of Dodgers 7, Reds 6, giving Los Angeles a 68.60 percent probability to win.

The Dodgers have also taken two of three from St. Louis before facing Cincinnati. The Reds, meanwhile, had won three straight against Milwaukee and San Diego before dropping their past two at Dodger Stadium.

After this series, Cincinnati will travel to Milwaukee for a three-game set beginning Friday. The Dodgers will head to Miami for a three-game series starting Friday. Los Angeles will then visit Cincinnati for a four-game series Sept. 14-17, followed by a three-game set against San Francisco at home.
