Chicago Cubs at Milwaukee Brewers

MILWAUKEE (Interstat) — The Milwaukee Brewers will go for a third straight win over the Chicago Cubs when the NL Central rivals wrap up their series Wednesday at American Family Field. Rain is in the forecast with a game-time temperature of 74 degrees.

Milwaukee enters at 90-56, while Chicago is 81-65. The Brewers have won two straight and six of the past 10 meetings, taking Monday’s opener 4-3 and Tuesday’s game 4-3 in 10 innings. The Cubs have lost three straight and have been outscored 18-9 in that span.

Chicago will start Kevin Gausman, who is 9-11 this season. Gausman has been a reliable innings eater but has struggled to get run support. Milwaukee will counter with Logan Henderson, who owns a 9-3 record. Henderson has been one of the Brewers’ most consistent starters and will face a Cubs lineup that has been held to three runs or fewer in three of the last four games.

Cubs pitcher David Peterson is a player to watch. In his most recent outing Tuesday, Peterson allowed one earned run on six hits over 4 1/3 innings with four strikeouts in the 10-inning loss. He has allowed two earned runs or fewer in four of his last five appearances, including a six-inning, two-run effort at Seattle on Aug. 22 when he struck out eight. However, he allowed six earned runs over 3 2/3 innings against the Brewers on Sept. 2. He allowed two earned runs over five innings against Cincinnati on Aug. 28.

For Milwaukee, Jacob Misiorowski is coming off a dominant performance Tuesday, when he struck out nine and allowed one earned run on four hits over 6 1/3 innings in a 4-3 win. Misiorowski has won each of his last five decisions and has struck out at least five batters in each of his last five starts. He has allowed one earned run or fewer in three of those outings. He also had a six-inning, two-run outing at the Mets on Aug. 27 and a six-inning, one-run effort at the Dodgers on Aug. 15.

The Brewers have been installed as a 1.5-run favorite, and the over/under is 7.5. Interstat’s ELO system gives Milwaukee a 57.1% chance to win, while its game simulator projects a 5-4 Chicago victory.

After Wednesday, Chicago returns home to face Pittsburgh on Friday, while Milwaukee opens a series against Cincinnati on Friday. The Cubs will then host Atlanta for three games before traveling to Cincinnati. The Brewers will visit Pittsburgh for three games before a trip to Baltimore. Both teams are off Thursday.
