Miami Marlins at Philadelphia Phillies

PHILADELPHIA (Interstat) — Cade Gibson (2-0) is scheduled to start for the Miami Marlins on Tuesday night against the Philadelphia Phillies and Zack Wheeler (10-4) at Citizens Bank Park.

Miami (64-62) enters the game looking to bounce back from Monday’s 6-5 loss to Philadelphia. The Phillies (68-58) bring a four-game winning streak into the matchup. The season series is tied 5-5.

The forecast calls for 85 degrees and rain at game time.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a 6-5 Phillies victory, and its ELO system gives Philadelphia a 58.5 percent chance to win. Philadelphia is a 1.5-run favorite on the run line, with the over/under at 8.

Wheeler will look to build on a strong season. He has won 10 decisions against four losses. Gibson, meanwhile, enters with an unblemished record in two decisions.

For Miami, right-hander Janson Junk has been a notable arm. In his most recent outing Monday against Philadelphia, Junk allowed two earned runs on eight hits with two strikeouts over five innings. Over his last five starts, he has allowed two earned runs or fewer in each appearance, including a six-inning, one-run effort against Pittsburgh on Aug. 12 and five scoreless innings at the Mets on July 31.

For Philadelphia, left-hander Cristopher Sánchez is a player to watch. Sánchez earned the win Monday against Miami, allowing one earned run on eight hits with six strikeouts over six innings. He has turned in four quality starts in his last five appearances, including a six-inning, 11-strikeout shutout performance at Baltimore on Aug. 1.

Monday’s Miami loss came despite productive performances from Javier Sanoja, who went 2 for 5 with two RBIs, and Brian Navarreto, who was 2 for 4 with a home run and an RBI. Philadelphia’s bullpen held on late, with Orion Kerkering recording the final out.

The Marlins have split their last 10 games. The Phillies have won four straight after sweeping three games at Minnesota from Friday through Sunday.

Miami’s upcoming schedule includes three more games against Philadelphia, starting Wednesday, before returning home to face Washington and Boston. Philadelphia will host Miami again Wednesday, then open a home series against St. Louis on Friday.

The game is part of a stretch that could carry postseason implications for both clubs, with the Phillies sitting above .500 and the Marlins hovering near the .500 mark. Philadelphia will look to extend its winning streak, while Miami hopes Gibson can deliver a second straight strong start and even the season series.
