Kansas City Royals at Los Angeles Angels

ANAHEIM, Calif. (Interstat) — The Kansas City Royals and Los Angeles Angels continue their three-game series Saturday night at Angel Stadium, with both teams seeking momentum after going in opposite directions this season.

Kansas City (50-73) enters with renewed confidence after winning Friday’s opener 7-6. The Royals had dropped four straight before that, but rookie first baseman Jac Caglianone powered the comeback with a 3-for-4 performance, including a home run and five RBIs. Caglianone has been Kansas City’s hottest hitter, collecting 19 hits in his past 10 games and driving in 16 runs over that stretch.

The Angels (48-75) had won three straight before Friday’s loss. First baseman Nolan Schanuel also had a big game in the opener, going 2-for-4 with four RBIs. He has eight hits and 10 RBIs over his past 10 games.

Saturday’s probable pitchers are right-hander Randy Dobnak (2-1) for Kansas City and left-hander Reid Detmers (3-8) for Los Angeles. Detmers has struggled with consistency, while Dobnak has been effective in limited duty.

The Royals have won four consecutive meetings with the Angels, including a three-game sweep in Kansas City from April 24-26. In that series, the Royals outscored the Angels 29-13. Friday’s game was tighter, with Kansas City scoring the go-ahead run late after Los Angeles had rallied.

Weather at game time is forecast to be clear with temperatures around 76 degrees, ideal conditions at Angel Stadium.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a 5-2 Angels victory, though Interstat’s ELO system gives Kansas City a 51.00 percent probability to win. The Angels have been installed as 1.5-run favorites, and the over/under is set at 8.5.

Kansas City will look to build on its late-game resilience and Caglianone’s production. The Royals have struggled on the road this season, but their recent head-to-head success against Los Angeles could carry over.

Los Angeles will need Detmers to give the Angels a strong start and keep the ball away from Caglianone, who has been the most dangerous bat in the Kansas City lineup. Schanuel will be counted on to continue his run production for an Angels team that has shown signs of improvement at home.

The series concludes with a Sunday afternoon game before Kansas City returns home to host the Athletics and Los Angeles travels to Houston. For now, both teams are focused on grabbing a win Saturday and taking the series.
