Miami Marlins at Cincinnati Reds
CINCINNATI (Interstat) -- The Miami Marlins and Cincinnati Reds play the middle game of a three-game series Saturday at Great American Ball Park, with rain in the forecast and both teams hovering near .500.
The Marlins (62-61) list right-handers Ryan Gusto (0-3) and Brady Singer (5-11) as probable pitchers. The Reds (59-62) won Friday night’s opener 1-0, with Chase Burns outdueling Miami’s Sandy Alcantara. Burns struck out eight and scattered four hits over seven scoreless innings. Alcantara allowed one run on three hits over seven innings, striking out two.
Alcantara remains a player to watch for Miami even though he is not scheduled to pitch Saturday. He has allowed one earned run or fewer in four of his past five starts. Burns, Cincinnati’s highlight from the opener, has permitted one earned run or fewer in three of his last four starts.
The forecast calls for 85 degrees and rain at first pitch. Miami is favored by 1.5 runs, and the over-under is 9. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 6-5 Marlins victory, while Interstat’s ELO system gives Cincinnati a 50.3 percent chance to win.
Miami had won series against Pittsburgh and Los Angeles before dropping Friday’s series opener. Cincinnati took three of four from the Chicago White Sox and swept three games from the Athletics earlier this month, then opened this series with the 1-0 win.
The series concludes Sunday at Great American Ball Park. Miami then travels to Philadelphia for three games, while Cincinnati hosts St. Louis for a four-game set.
