Los Angeles Dodgers at Arizona Diamondbacks
PHOENIX (Interstat) — The Los Angeles Dodgers and Arizona Diamondbacks close their three-game series Sunday afternoon at Chase Field, with the NL West rivals even after two tense games.
The Dodgers (70-47) won Saturday’s 2-1 decision in 10 innings. Right-hander Yoshinobu Yamamoto worked 5 2/3 scoreless innings, allowed three hits and struck out six. Right fielder Kyle Tucker homered and drove in a run, and Jack Dreyer added a scoreless inning of relief. Yamamoto has allowed no more than two earned runs in three of his past four starts, including a complete-game win at the New York Yankees on July 18.
Arizona (62-56) won Friday’s opener 4-3 and has taken six of 10 meetings this season. Right-hander Brandon Pfaadt matched Yamamoto on Saturday, holding the Dodgers to two hits over seven scoreless innings with two strikeouts. It was his fourth consecutive quality start; Pfaadt has pitched at least six innings and allowed two earned runs or fewer in each.
The Dodgers have leaned on a deep bullpen during the series, while the Diamondbacks have gotten strong starting pitching. Saturday marked the second straight game in which both starters kept the opposing lineup off the scoreboard.
Sportsbooks have installed the Dodgers as a -1.5 run-line favorite, and the over/under is 8.5. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 6-2 Arizona victory, while Interstat’s ELO system gives Los Angeles a 56.60 percent chance to win.
Following Sunday’s finale, the Dodgers host Kansas City on Monday. Arizona opens a homestand Monday against Colorado.
