Atlanta Braves at New York Yankees
NEW YORK (Interstat) — The Atlanta Braves and New York Yankees close their three-game series Sunday at Yankee Stadium, with the Yankees seeking a sweep and the Braves trying to avoid a third straight loss.
Atlanta enters at 70-47, while New York is 66-51. Game-time weather is forecast as 89 degrees with clouds. New York is a -1.5 run-line favorite, and the over/under is 8.5. Interstat’s game simulator projects an 8-5 Atlanta victory, which would give the Braves their first win in the season series.
The Yankees took Friday’s opener 3-2 in 10 innings, then won Saturday 5-4. In Saturday’s game, Gerrit Cole pitched seven innings, allowing two earned runs on six hits with nine strikeouts. Spencer Jones went 2 for 3 with two RBIs, and David Bednar allowed one earned run over a relief inning.
Chris Sale took the loss for Atlanta despite a strong outing: six innings, five hits, three earned runs and eight strikeouts. Ronald Acuña Jr. homered and drove in a run, and Danny Young gave up one earned run in one inning.
Sale and Cole remain the players to watch even though they both started Saturday. Sale has allowed three earned runs or fewer in each of his past four starts, striking out 34 in that span. Cole has allowed two earned runs or fewer in four of his past five starts.
The Braves had won seven straight before arriving in New York, including sweeps of Washington and Miami. The Yankees, meanwhile, had lost two of three to St. Louis before taking the first two games of this series.
