Kansas City Royals at Colorado Rockies

DENVER (Interstat) — The Kansas City Royals visit the Colorado Rockies on Friday night at Coors Field, opening a three-game interleague series between last-place teams in their respective divisions.

Kansas City (46-64) enters after a 4-3 loss Thursday at Minnesota. The Royals have lost four of their past six games, though they also have won four of their past seven.

Colorado (42-67) comes off a 3-1 loss Wednesday at San Diego, its third defeat in the past four games. The Rockies have lost eight of their past 11.

Probable starters are Kansas City left-hander Noah Cameron and Colorado right-hander Gabriel Hughes.

Cameron, despite a 0-4 record in his past five starts, has pitched well in three of those outings. He allowed one hit and struck out seven over eight scoreless innings Thursday at Minnesota but took a 4-3 loss. On July 24 at Detroit, he yielded two hits over seven scoreless innings with eight strikeouts in a 2-1 loss. In between, however, Cameron allowed nine hits and seven earned runs over five innings July 19 against San Diego in a 19-2 loss.

Hughes has been more consistent recently, allowing three earned runs or fewer in each of his past four starts. He gave up six hits and three earned runs over five innings Wednesday at San Diego in a 3-1 loss. On July 22 against Washington, he allowed five hits and one earned run over five innings in an 8-0 loss.

Kansas City’s lineup features first baseman Jac Caglianone, who homered and had two RBIs Thursday. Center fielder John Rave also had two hits in that game.

Colorado relies on a bullpen that has been effective recently. Relievers Zach Agnos and Brennan Bernardino combined for three scoreless innings Wednesday.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a 6-3 Royals victory. Kansas City is a minus-1.5 favorite, with an over/under of 10.5 runs.

The Royals have struggled at Coors Field, where the thin air often inflates scoring. Kansas City’s offense has averaged 3.9 runs per game on the road this season.

The series continues Saturday and Sunday before both teams return home. Kansas City hosts Minnesota for three games starting Tuesday. Colorado hosts Tampa Bay for three games starting Monday.
