Miami Marlins at New York Mets
NEW YORK (Interstat) — The Miami Marlins and New York Mets continue their four-game series Friday night at Citi Field. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m., with the forecast calling for 73 degrees and cloudy skies.
Miami enters at 55-54, having won three straight against Philadelphia. The Marlins took the first two games of that series by scores of 1-0 and 8-6 before completing the sweep with an 8-6 victory Wednesday. Left fielder Heriberto Hernández homered and drove in two runs in that win, and reliever Pete Fairbanks added a scoreless inning with one strikeout.
Fairbanks has been a reliable arm out of the bullpen recently. In his past three appearances, all against the Phillies, he has tossed three scoreless innings with four strikeouts. Over his last nine outings, he has allowed earned runs only twice.
The Mets (45-64) are coming off a 1-0 loss to Atlanta on Wednesday, their second straight shutout defeat to the Braves. New York did win three of its previous four, including a 14-3 rout of Atlanta on Monday.
Left-hander Sean Manaea is scheduled to start for the Mets. In his last outing July 29, he pitched six innings and allowed two earned runs on five hits with four strikeouts in a 3-2 win over Atlanta. Over his past two starts, he has a 2.79 ERA with seven strikeouts in 12 innings.
The Mets have dominated the season series, winning five of the seven meetings. That includes a 10-1 victory Thursday in the series opener and two of three in a May set at Citi Field. The lone Marlins win in that stretch came May 24 in Miami.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a 4-3 Mets victory. New York is a -1.5 run-line favorite. The over/under is 8.5 runs.
Following this series, Miami travels to Atlanta for three games beginning Tuesday. The Mets head to Cleveland for a three-game set starting the same day.
