New York Yankees at Chicago White Sox
CHICAGO (Interstat) — The New York Yankees and Chicago White Sox are set to continue their American League series Tuesday night at Guaranteed Rate Field under the threat of rain, with a 79-degree forecast and showers expected at first pitch.
New York (59-46) has been installed as a -1.5 favorite on the run line, with the over/under set at 8 runs. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 7-6 victory for the Yankees.
The White Sox (55-49) enter the game after a 12-3 rout of the Houston Astros on Sunday and have taken the early lead in this four-game set, edging New York 1-0 on Monday.
Monday’s pitchers’ duel was the latest chapter in a season series that New York has dominated, winning three of four meetings in June at Yankee Stadium by scores of 12-2, 10-5 and 5-2 before Chicago salvaged the finale.
Yankees designated hitter Ben Rice remains a key bat in the middle of the lineup. Rice went 2-for-5 with a home run and an RBI in Sunday’s 11-4 loss at Philadelphia, snapping a three-game hitless skid. Over his last 10 games, Rice has three home runs and six RBIs, though he has also struck out eight times and hit .222 (6-for-27) over that span.
White Sox first baseman Munetaka Murakami is arguably the hottest hitter in the series after his Sunday outburst: 3-for-5 with two home runs and six RBIs against Houston. Murakami has driven in seven runs over his last two games and has five homers in his past 10 contests. However, he has been somewhat inconsistent, with hitless games on July 22 and July 19 mixed in with multi-hit performances.
The pitching matchup was not announced as of Monday night, but both bullpens have been active. Yankees reliever Camilo Doval threw a scoreless inning with three strikeouts Sunday. White Sox right-hander Erick Fedde labored through 4 1/3 innings Sunday, allowing five hits and three earned runs, while lefty Chris Murphy tossed a perfect inning with two strikeouts.
The Yankees complete their series in Chicago on Wednesday and Thursday before traveling across town for a weekend set against the Cubs at Wrigley Field. The White Sox also host New York for a matinee Wednesday and Thursday before heading to Tampa Bay for a three-game series against the Rays.
First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. CT.
