Baltimore Orioles at Detroit Tigers

DETROIT (Interstat) — The Baltimore Orioles (51-55) visit the Detroit Tigers (50-56) on Tuesday, July 28, at Comerica Park in a 7:10 p.m. matchup between two teams hovering near the .500 mark in the American League.

The forecast calls for 82 degrees and rain at first pitch.

The Orioles enter having lost three of their last four, including a 3-2, 11-inning defeat Sunday against the Atlanta Braves. Right-hander Shane Baz, scheduled to start Tuesday, took the loss in that game, allowing one earned run on six hits over 4 1/3 innings with two strikeouts. Baz is 0-3 with a 3.86 ERA over his last four outings, though he has recorded 20 strikeouts in 21 innings during that span. His most recent win came July 12 against Kansas City.

Detroit, meanwhile, has dropped six of its last eight, including a 5-4 loss Sunday to the Kansas City Royals. Left-hander Framber Valdez is set to start for the Tigers. Valdez struggled in his most recent outing July 21 at Chicago, allowing six earned runs on five hits while recording only two outs. He posted a quality start July 9 against the Athletics, yielding one run in seven innings.

The Tigers enter as a pregame favorite at minus-1.5 on the run line, with the over/under set at nine runs. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 6-5 Orioles victory.

The teams met Monday in the series opener, with Baltimore winning 7-3. The Orioles have won two of the last three head-to-head meetings dating to May, though the Tigers took two of three in Baltimore that month.

The game begins a stretch of 10 straight contests for both clubs. Baltimore travels to face Texas next week, while Detroit embarks on a West Coast trip to Oakland, Seattle and San Francisco.
