MILWAUKEE (Interstat) – The Milwaukee Brewers pounded out 14 hits and rode a dominant start from Jacob Misiorowski to an 11-2 victory over the Colorado Rockies on Sunday afternoon at American Family Field.

The Brewers took the series two games to one after dropping the opener Friday night. Milwaukee improved to 66-39, while Colorado fell to 42-65.

The only blemish against him came in the fifth inning when Cole Carrigg led off with a solo home run to left field. That cut Milwaukee’s lead to 3-1 at the time.

The Brewers answered emphatically in the bottom of the sixth. Andrew Vaughn led off with a solo homer to center, his fourth of the season, to push the lead to 4-1. After a strikeout and a walk to Jake Bauers, Gary Sánchez walked and Luis Lara doubled to right, scoring Bauers and sending Sánchez to third. Cooper Pratt then doubled to left, plating Sánchez and Lara to make it 7-1. Joey Ortiz doubled to left, deflected by shortstop Willi Castro, putting runners at second and third. Jackson Chourio grounded out to the catcher, scoring Pratt and advancing Ortiz to third. Brice Turang walked, but Vaughn struck out to end the inning. The Brewers scored five runs on four hits in the frame.

Colorado got a run back in the top of the seventh when Willi Castro led off with a solo homer to right center, his 10th of the season, cutting the deficit to 8-2. But Milwaukee answered again in the bottom of the seventh. Gary Sánchez doubled to right, scoring Bauers, and Luis Lara doubled to left, scoring Sánchez. Cooper Pratt singled to right, putting runners at the corners, but Joey Ortiz grounded into a double play to end the inning. The Brewers led 10-2 after seven.

Milwaukee added a final run in the eighth. Jackson Chourio led off with a double, moved to third on a groundout and scored on a sacrifice fly by Vaughn.

The Rockies managed only five hits in the game, two of them home runs. The Brewers had 14 hits, including five doubles, a triple and a home run. Every Milwaukee starter had at least one hit, and nine different Brewers recorded at least one run or RBI.

Colorado started Kyle Freeland, who fell to 2-10 on the season. Freeland allowed eight runs, seven earned, on eight hits over five-plus innings. He walked two and struck out one. He was charged with the loss after allowing the first three runs in the first inning and the five-run sixth.

The Brewers jumped on Freeland early. Jackson Chourio led off the bottom of the first with a double. Brice Turang bunted for a single, and Freeland made a throwing error on the play that allowed Chourio to score. Andrew Vaughn flied out, but William Contreras doubled to left, putting Turang at third. Jake Bauers grounded out to first, scoring Contreras. Gary Sánchez grounded out to end the inning with Milwaukee leading 3-0.

Misiorowski dominated from there, striking out the side in the first, two in the second, three in the third, two in the fourth and two in the fifth. He did not allow a hit until Carrigg’s homer with one out in the fifth. After that homer, Misiorowski hit Castro with a pitch, but Castro was thrown out trying to steal second on a force out.

The Rockies threatened in the sixth against reliever Chad Patrick, who relieved Misiorowski after five innings. Mickey Moniak singled and Hunter Goodman singled to put runners at first and third with one out, but TJ Rumfield grounded out to end the inning.

Milwaukee’s bullpen combined for four innings of one-run relief. Aaron Ashby faced one batter and got an out in the sixth. Craig Yoho and Grant Anderson each worked a scoreless inning, with Anderson allowing one hit. Bryse Wilson pitched the ninth, giving up one hit and striking out two.
