Colorado Rockies at Milwaukee Brewers

PREVIEW: Rockies at Brewers

MILWAUKEE (Interstat) — The Colorado Rockies and Milwaukee Brewers continue their four-game series Saturday night at American Family Field, with first pitch scheduled for 7:15 p.m. under clear skies and 73-degree temperatures.

Left-hander Robert Gasser (2-4) will start for Colorado (42-63), seeking to build on a strong bullpen effort in Friday’s series opener. The Brewers (64-39) counter with lefty Shane Drohan, who took the loss in that same 5-2 defeat despite striking out six over six innings.

Milwaukee entered the series with the National League’s best record, but the Rockies snapped a three-game losing streak Friday behind a solid outing from Tomoyuki Sugano, who allowed two earned runs over 5.1 innings while striking out five. Sugano has won his past two starts, including a 10-3 victory over Cincinnati on July 18 in which he struck out three over 6.1 innings.

Drohan has been inconsistent of late. Over his past five starts, he owns a 3-2 record with a 4.50 ERA, most recently allowing five earned runs against Colorado on Friday. He worked six innings in that outing, yielding six hits and striking out six. In his July 18 start against Miami, Drohan earned a win after holding the Marlins to three earned runs over six innings.

Friday’s victory gave Colorado a rare bright spot in a disappointing season. The Rockies entered July with the league’s worst record but have shown flashes of competitiveness. Milwaukee, meanwhile, has won seven of its past 10 games, though Friday’s loss snapped a three-game winning streak.

The Brewers have dominated the season series, winning three of four meetings, including a three-game sweep in June at Colorado by scores of 12-4, 7-1 and 9-7.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a 6-3 Milwaukee victory. The Brewers are installed as -1.5 favorites on the run line, with an over/under of 8.5 runs.

For Colorado, second baseman Brice Turang went 3 for 4 with a home run and an RBI in Friday’s loss from the visiting clubhouse perspective, while relievers Victor Vodnik and Jordan Romano combined for 2.2 scoreless innings.

Following Saturday’s contest, the teams conclude the series Sunday afternoon before Milwaukee embarks on a six-game road trip to San Francisco and Los Angeles. Colorado travels to San Diego for a two-game set beginning Tuesday.
