Los Angeles Dodgers at New York Mets
NEW YORK (Interstat) — The Los Angeles Dodgers, owners of the National League’s best record, aim to continue their dominance over the struggling New York Mets on Saturday afternoon at Citi Field.
First pitch is scheduled for 4:10 p.m. EDT under cloudy skies and a temperature of 73 degrees.
Los Angeles (65-38) enters as a heavy favorite with a -1.5 run line and an over/under set at 8. The Dodgers come to Queens after a successful road trip that included a 9-5 victory Wednesday at Philadelphia, their third win in four games. The Interstat game simulator projects a 5-4 final in favor of the visitors.
The Dodgers have owned the season series, winning the first three meetings in April by a combined 14-3 score. The lone exception came Friday, when the clubs played to a 1-1 tie — a game that was likely called early due to weather or other circumstances.
All eyes will be on Dodgers catcher Dalton Rushing. After a prolonged slump in which he went hitless in seven of his previous nine games, Rushing broke through Wednesday with a 2-for-4 performance, including a home run and three RBIs. His bat could be key for a lineup already deep with run producers. Tommy Edman added three hits and three RBIs in that same win over Philadelphia, and left-hander Eric Lauer earned the victory with 5 1/3 innings of three-run ball.
The Mets, meanwhile, are in last place in the NL East at 43-60. They dropped a 4-3 decision Wednesday in Milwaukee, falling in the series finale by a single run. Right-hander Christian Scott took the loss after allowing three runs over 3 2/3 innings, striking out six. Marcus Semien provided the offense with a solo home run.
One bright spot for New York has been reliever Daniel Duarte. In Wednesday’s loss, the right-hander tossed 1 1/3 scoreless innings, allowing no hits and striking out one. Manager Carlos Mendoza may turn to him early in high-leverage situations if the Mets can keep the game close.
The Mets have lost four of five heading into this contest, while the Dodgers have won three of their last four.
After Saturday’s game, the teams meet again Sunday before Los Angeles returns home for a six-game homestand against Seattle and Boston. The Mets will host Atlanta for three games beginning Monday.
