Kansas City Royals at Detroit Tigers

DETROIT (Interstat) — The Detroit Tigers host the Kansas City Royals on Saturday evening at Comerica Park, with first pitch at 7:10 p.m. under cloudy skies and 79 degrees.

The Tigers (49-54) enter the game having won two straight over Kansas City, including a 4-3 victory Thursday and a 2-1 win Friday. Detroit has taken four of the last six meetings between the teams dating to April. The Royals (43-61) have dropped four of their last five overall, though they swept a three-game home series against San Francisco before arriving in Detroit.

Right-hander Randy Dobnak starts for Kansas City. In his most recent outing Thursday at Detroit, he took a no-decision after allowing no earned runs over five innings, scattering four hits and striking out three. Over his past four starts, Dobnak has posted a 1.42 ERA across 19 innings, with 10 strikeouts and just three earned runs allowed.

Detroit counters with right-hander Troy Melton, who has been dominant in his past four outings. He is 4-0 over that stretch with a 1.62 ERA, striking out 30 over 22 1/3 innings. Melton faced Kansas City on Thursday and earned the win, allowing two earned runs on five hits over five innings with five strikeouts.

The Tigers have shown recent offensive pop, led by center fielder James Outman, who delivered a three-run homer in Thursday’s win. For Kansas City, left fielder Isaac Collins homered and drove in two runs Thursday. Relievers Matt Strahm for the Royals and Kyle Finnegan for the Tigers each tossed scoreless innings in that contest.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a 6-5 Tigers victory. Detroit is a -1.5 run favorite, with an over/under of 8.

Both clubs conclude the series Sunday before Kansas City heads to Minnesota and Detroit hosts Baltimore.
