Washington Nationals at Colorado Rockies
DENVER (Interstat) — The Washington Nationals aim to build on their series-opening win when they face the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday afternoon at Coors Field. First pitch is scheduled under clear skies with a game-time temperature of 90 degrees.
Right-hander Cade Cavalli (6-4) is the probable starter for Washington, which enters play at 51-50. Colorado, 40-62, is expected to send left-hander Kyle Freeland to the mound.
The Nationals won Monday’s series opener 7-3. Andrés Chaparro went 1-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs in that game. Over his past four starts, Chaparro is batting .308 with three homers and 11 RBIs, including a 4-for-5, two-homer, eight-RBI outburst July 17 at Oakland.
Freeland lasted six innings in Monday’s loss, allowing four earned runs on seven hits with four strikeouts. He surrendered four earned runs in each of his past two starts and has not completed seven innings in any of his past four outings.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a 4-3 Washington victory. The Nationals are listed as a minus-1.5 run-line favorite, and the over/under is set at 11½ runs.
Washington wraps up this three-game series before heading home to face Arizona and Toronto. Colorado travels to Milwaukee and San Diego after the series finale.
