Miami Marlins at Houston Astros

HOUSTON (Interstat) – The Miami Marlins visit the Houston Astros on Wednesday for the final game of a three-game series at Daikin Park.

First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. CDT.

Miami (52-49) brings a three-game losing streak into the matchup, having dropped the first two games of this series 1-0 on Tuesday and 8-5 on Monday. The Marlins have lost four of their last five overall.

Houston (48-54) snapped a season-worst seven-game losing streak with Monday’s win, then held on for a 1-0 victory Tuesday. The Astros have won consecutive games for the first time since July 9-10 at Texas.

Miami is expected to start right-hander Sandy Alcantara (10-5, 3.41 ERA) in the series finale. He is 2-1 with a 2.25 ERA in three career starts against Houston.

Houston had not announced a probable starter as of late Tuesday.

Alcantara opposed left-hander Peter Lambert (8-5, 4.12) in Monday’s series opener, a 8-5 Houston victory. Miami also listed Lambert as a probable starter Wednesday, though that appears to be a data error.

A player to watch for Miami is left-handed pitcher Dax Fulton, who has worked in relief in this series. On Monday, Fulton threw 3.0 innings, allowing two hits and one earned run while striking out four. He did not factor in the decision.

For Houston, designated hitter Yordan Alvarez has been productive over the past two weeks. In his last 10 games, Alvarez is 14-for-36 (.389) with four home runs and eight RBIs. He went 3-for-4 with two homers and two RBIs in Monday’s win over Miami.

Wednesday’s game is the third meeting between the teams this season. Houston has won the first two by a combined score of 9-5.

The game projects as a low-scoring affair. Interstat’s game simulator predicts a 3-2 Miami victory. Houston is a -1.5 run favorite, and the over-under is 7.5.

Miami heads home after this series to face San Diego on Friday. Houston travels to Chicago to face the White Sox.
