Cincinnati Reds at Colorado Rockies

Reds at Rockies Preview

DENVER (Interstat) — The Cincinnati Reds and Colorado Rockies conclude their three-game series Sunday afternoon at Coors Field, with first pitch scheduled for 3:10 p.m. MDT under clear skies and a forecasted game-time temperature of 91 degrees.

Right-hander Hunter Greene (1-1, 4.50 ERA) gets the start for Cincinnati (44-53), which has split the first two games of this set. The Reds dropped Saturday’s contest 10-3 after winning Friday’s opener 7-2. Greene has made two starts since returning from the injured list, allowing three earned runs over 5 2/3 innings in his most recent outing July 11 against the Chicago Cubs.

Colorado (40-60) had not announced a starting pitcher as of Saturday night.

The series finale features two of the hottest hitters in the National League. Cincinnati catcher Jose Trevino went 3-for-4 with two home runs and two RBIs in Saturday’s loss, extending his offensive surge. Over his past five games, Trevino is 9-for-18 with three homers and eight RBIs, including a 3-for-4 performance with a home run and three RBIs on July 2 at Milwaukee.

Colorado first baseman TJ Rumfield matched Trevino’s production Saturday, going 4-for-5 with a home run and four RBIs. Rumfield is 7-for-13 over his past three games with five RBIs, lifting his average to .291 for the season.

Saturday’s game marked the sixth time this season the two teams have met, with Cincinnati holding a 3-3 edge in the season series.

The Reds send Greene to the mound seeking consistency from a rotation that has struggled with depth. Cincinnati’s offense ranks 25th in the majors in runs per game, though Trevino has provided a spark from the catcher position.

Colorado has dropped nine of its past 12 games overall but showed resilience Saturday behind Rumfield’s big day and a strong start from Tomoyuki Sugano, who allowed three earned runs over 6 1/3 innings.

The betting line favors the Reds by 1.5 runs, with the over/under set at 11. An Interstat game simulation projects a 4-3 Cincinnati victory.

Following Sunday’s game, the Reds travel to Seattle for a three-game series beginning Monday, while Colorado returns home to host Washington for a four-game set.
