Pirates erupt for 10 runs in fourth, defeat Brewers 14‑5
PITTSBURGH (Interstat) — Paul Skenes pitched seven strong innings and the Pittsburgh Pirates erupted for a 10-run fourth inning to trounce the Milwaukee Brewers 14-5 on Sunday at PNC Park before a crowd of 34,087.
The victory gave Pittsburgh a three-game sweep of the weekend series, improving the Pirates to 50-47 while dropping the Brewers to 59-37. Skenes, who allowed two runs on four hits over seven innings with six strikeouts, earned his eighth win against eight losses. Milwaukee starter Robert Gasser took the loss, falling to 2-4 after surrendering six runs over 2 1/3 innings.
Milwaukee grabbed an early lead in the fourth when Christian Yelich doubled and scored on Jackson Chourio’s double to right. Chourio later scored on a fielder’s choice by Gary Sánchez to make it 2-4, but the Brewers’ momentum vanished in the bottom half.
The Pirates sent 14 batters to the plate in the fourth, turning a 4-2 deficit into a 14-2 rout. Marcell Ozuna started the barrage with a solo home run to left. Jared Triolo doubled and scored on a Henry Davis single. After a walk to Jake Mangum, Brandon Lowe singled to load the bases, and Bryan Reynolds was hit by a pitch to force in a run. Esmerlyn Valdez walked to score Mangum, and Ryan O’Hearn singled to bring home Lowe. Nick Gonzales then cleared the bases with a double to center, scoring Reynolds and Valdez. Triolo added a two-run single, and Jake Mangum capped the inning with a triple to center that plated Davis.
The 10-run frame was the largest single-inning outburst for Pittsburgh this season and matched the most runs allowed by Milwaukee in any inning in 2026.
Milwaukee answered with three runs in the eighth on Brice Turang’s two-run homer and Garrett Mitchell’s run-scoring double, but the Pirates bullpen closed out the game without further damage.
Chourio led Milwaukee with two hits and an RBI. Turang drove in two runs with his 14th home run of the year. For Pittsburgh, Gonzales collected two hits and three RBIs, while Triolo had three hits and two RBIs. Henry Davis also drove in two runs during the fourth-inning explosion.

The Brewers, who entered the series after winning five of their previous six, were outscored 24-13 over the three games. They return home for a 10-game homestand beginning Friday against Miami. Pittsburgh heads to Cleveland for a three-game set before a three-game series at Yankee Stadium.
