Los Angeles Angels at Texas Rangers
ARLINGTON, Texas (Interstat) — The Texas Rangers host the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday at Globe Life Park, with both clubs looking to reverse recent slides. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. CDT.
The Rangers (45-45) enter the matchup at .500 after dropping two of three to the Detroit Tigers over the weekend, including a 6-3 loss Sunday. The Angels (36-55) have lost six straight games and 10 of their last 11, capped by a 7-5 defeat Sunday against the Boston Red Sox.
Texas won the season series two games to one at Angel Stadium in May, but the Angels swept that three-game set. The home team will aim to regain control at Globe Life Park, where the Rangers have been inconsistent but are projected as 1.5-run favorites, according to Interstat’s game simulator, which forecasts a 6-4 Texas victory. The over/under is 7.
Players to watch
Angels shortstop Zach Neto has been streaky at the plate. In Sunday’s loss, he went 3-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs. However, he was 0-for-4 with a strikeout the previous day and has multiple hits in only three of his last 10 games. Over that span, he’s batting .240 (6-for-25) with two homers and six RBIs. Neto will need to provide consistent production for a struggling lineup that has scored three runs or fewer in seven of its last nine games.
Rangers right-hander Kumar Rocker is expected to start Tuesday. The rookie has shown flashes of dominance but also bouts of wildness. In his last outing Sunday, he allowed three earned runs on five hits over 4 1/3 innings in a loss. Two starts earlier, he pitched six scoreless innings with five strikeouts in a win at Toronto. Rocker has a 4.19 ERA over his past five starts, with a 25-7 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 23 1/3 innings.
Recent trends
The Angels have lost nine straight road games dating to June 28 and are 14-32 away from home this season. Texas is 23-22 at Globe Life Park.
Both clubs face pivotal stretches. The Angels begin a three-game series at Minnesota after this set, while the Rangers host the Houston Astros for a weekend series starting Friday.
