Houston Astros at Washington Nationals

WASHINGTON (Interstat) — The Washington Nationals look to build on a lopsided win when they host the Houston Astros on Tuesday night at Nationals Park, with a forecast of 83 degrees and rain.

Washington (46-45) enters the game after a 12-6 victory over Houston on Monday, the first of a three-game series. The Nationals’ lineup erupted for 12 runs, handing the Astros their second loss in three games.

Houston (45-47) sits two games under .500 and is coming off a 2-0 shutout of Tampa Bay on Sunday. Right-hander Peter Lambert is expected to take the mound for the Astros. Lambert (4-0 in his past five starts) pitched 5 2/3 scoreless innings in that win over the Rays, allowing three hits and striking out six. Over his last five outings, he has a 1.90 ERA, including a seven-inning, one-run performance against Detroit on June 17. Lambert has been a stabilizing force for a Houston rotation that has struggled with consistency.

Washington will counter with a lineup featuring hot-hitting infielder Luis García Jr. García went 2 for 5 with a home run and two RBIs in Sunday’s 11-5 loss to Pittsburgh. Over his last 10 games, García is batting .400 with five homers and 14 RBIs, including a two-homer, five-RBI game against Baltimore on June 28. He has been the Nationals’ most productive bat during a stretch that saw the team win five of seven before Monday’s loss.

Monday’s series opener was a high-scoring affair, with Washington scoring in six different innings. The Nationals are 7-3 in their last 10 home games.

Betting markets have installed Houston as a minus-1.5 favorite, despite the Astros’ losing record. The over/under is set at 9 runs. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 6-5 Nationals victory.

The Astros are aiming for a split before the series concludes Wednesday. Houston then travels to Texas for a weekend set, while Washington welcomes the New York Yankees on Friday.

First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. EDT.
