Marlins pound Rockies with 21 hits in 14‑3 win
DENVER (Interstat) — Eury Pérez pitched 5 1/3 strong innings and the Miami Marlins erupted for 21 hits Tuesday night at Coors Field, overwhelming the Colorado Rockies 14-3 to win their fourth straight game and improve to 46-40 on the season.
Pérez allowed one earned run on two hits and struck out eight before departing with a commanding lead, earning his fourth win against six losses. The right-hander retired 10 of the first 11 batters he faced after a solo home run by Mickey Moniak in the bottom of the first inning. Pérez’s outing marked a bounce-back performance after he went just 4 2/3 innings in a win against Texas on June 24, and the Miami bullpen behind him — Lake Bachar and Zach Brzykcy — combined for three scoreless innings of relief, allowing one hit and striking out two.
Colorado dropped to 33-53. Tanner Gordon took the loss, falling to 0-2, after allowing eight runs on 12 hits over 5 1/3 innings.
Miami opened the scoring in the top of the first inning when Griffin Conine doubled to right field, scoring Kyle Stowers, who had led off with a triple. The Marlins added another run in the second on a single by Leo Jiménez that brought home Javier Sanoja, who reached on a single and advanced on a fielding error by center fielder Cole Carrigg.
The game’s decisive moment came in the top of the third inning. With two outs and a 2-1 lead, Sanoja crushed a three-run home run to left-center field, scoring Xavier Edwards and Owen Caissie. The blast extended Miami’s lead to 5-1 and effectively put the game out of reach. Sanoja finished 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs.
Miami piled on against a tiring Colorado staff in the middle and late innings. In the sixth, the Marlins sent nine batters to the plate and scored three runs on five hits. Stowers singled home Jiménez, Conine singled home Liam Hicks, and Edwards singled home Stowers, making the score 8-1.
Joe Mack added a two-run home run in the seventh inning, his fifth of the year, scoring Sanoja to push the lead to 10-1. Owen Caissie capped the offensive onslaught in the eighth with a three-run homer to right-center field, his 10th, bringing home Conine and Edwards to make it 13-2.
Colorado managed a run in the bottom of the seventh on a groundout by Jake McCarthy that scored Edouard Julien, who had walked and moved to third on a groundout. The Rockies added their third run in the ninth when Ezequiel Tovar doubled to left field, scoring Kyle Karros, who had doubled to lead off the inning. But Mickey Moniak struck out swinging to end the game.
Conine led the Miami attack, going 4-for-5 with two RBIs and three runs scored. Edwards collected four hits in six at-bats with an RBI and two runs. Stowers went 3-for-6 with two RBIs and two runs. Jiménez went 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs. Liam Hicks contributed three hits.

The attendance was 20,526. The game lasted 3 hours.
