Baltimore Orioles at Los Angeles Angels
ANAHEIM, Calif. (Interstat) — The Baltimore Orioles aim for a series sweep Wednesday evening in the finale of a three-game set against the Los Angeles Angels at Angel Stadium.
First pitch is scheduled for 6:38 p.m. PDT under clear skies with temperatures near 80 degrees.
Right-hander Trey Gibson (1-2) takes the mound for Baltimore (38-42), seeking his second win of the season after a recent rough patch. The Angels (32-48) have not announced a starting pitcher for the contest.
Baltimore enters with momentum, having won five of its past six games, including a 6-1 victory Monday in the series opener. The Orioles’ offense has tallied 27 runs over their last four games, powered by contributions from designated hitter Coby Mayo, who homered and drove in three runs Monday, and left fielder Taylor Ward, who went 2-for-5 with a home run.
A key player to watch for Baltimore is right-hander Kyle Bradish, though he is not scheduled to start. Bradish has been dominant recently, going 3-0 with a 1.80 ERA over his last three starts, including eight scoreless innings Monday with nine strikeouts.
For the Angels, reliever José Fermin has been effective in limited action. The right-hander has not allowed an earned run in three of his last four appearances, covering 3 1/3 innings with four strikeouts.
The series has favored the Orioles. After Monday’s 6-1 win, Baltimore shut out the Angels in the second game Tuesday, winning 1-0. The Orioles have limited Los Angeles to one run over the first two games of the series.
Despite their struggles, Los Angeles has shown offensive bursts, scoring nine runs in a win over the Athletics on Sunday and 11 runs in an extra-inning loss Friday. The Angels have won four of their last seven overall.
Baltimore will face Washington in a three-game home series beginning Friday, while Los Angeles hosts for a weekend set.
The game simulator projects a 6-5 Baltimore victory. Los Angeles opens as a -1.5 favorite on the run line, with an over/under of 9.5 runs.
