Toronto Blue Jays at Chicago Cubs
CHICAGO (Interstat) — The Toronto Blue Jays and Chicago Cubs will meet Saturday afternoon at Wrigley Field, with the home team seeking a series sweep and the visitors aiming to salvage the finale of a three-game set.
First pitch is scheduled for a time to be determined under mostly clear skies, with the temperature at 76 degrees.
The Blue Jays enter the contest at 37-39, having lost three of their last four. Toronto is coming off a 16-2 drubbing Friday, when the Cubs scored 16 runs on 17 hits. The Blue Jays had won four straight prior to that loss, including a three-game sweep of the Boston Red Sox earlier in the week.
The Cubs hold a 40-36 record and have won two consecutive games. Chicago took two of three from the Colorado Rockies earlier this week before Friday’s blowout victory.
George Springer leads a Toronto offense that has been inconsistent. The veteran designated hitter is batting .500 (4 for 8) with two home runs and five RBI over his last two games. In Friday’s loss, Springer went 2 for 4 with a home run and two RBI. Over his last 10 games, he has three homers and seven RBI, though he also has four hitless performances in that span.
Carson Kelly has been a force for the Cubs. The catcher went 2 for 4 with a home run and six RBI in Friday’s win, driving in more runs in a single game than any other Cub this season. Kelly is 7 for 20 (.350) with two home runs and eight RBI over his last seven games.
Toronto is currently listed as a -1.5 favorite on the run line, and the over/under is set at 8.5 runs. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 6-5 victory for the Blue Jays.
The Blue Jays will return to Toronto following Sunday’s series finale to host the Houston Astros on Monday. The Cubs will travel to New York to open a four-game series against the Mets on Monday.
