New York Mets at Philadelphia Phillies
PHILADELPHIA (Interstat) — The New York Mets aim to build on a series-opening victory when they face the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday at Citizens Bank Park.
First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. EDT under cloudy skies with a temperature of 77 degrees.
New York (34-41) enters with momentum after a 6-4 win over the Phillies on Thursday. Right-hander Freddy Peralta (5-5, 3.85 ERA) will start for the Mets. Philadelphia (40-35) has dropped two straight and will counter with a starter to be announced; Aaron Nola, who took the loss Thursday, is not scheduled to pitch on regular rest.
METS FOCUS
Juan Soto has been the catalyst for New York’s offense. The left fielder went 2 for 4 with two home runs and two RBIs in Thursday’s victory, continuing a hot stretch. In his past seven games, Soto is batting .407 (11 for 27) with three homers and eight RBIs. He has recorded multiple hits in five of those contests.
Peralta will look to replicate the strong outing of Sean Manaea, who allowed two runs over 5⅓ innings with five strikeouts in the series opener.
PHILLIES OUTLOOK
Philadelphia seeks to reverse a recent trend. The Phillies have lost three of their past four, though Nola turned in a quality start Thursday — 5 innings, seven hits, two earned runs and six strikeouts. In his past three outings, Nola has a 3.75 ERA with 17 strikeouts over 14⅔ innings.
The Phillies’ lineup managed four runs Thursday but stranded seven runners. Philadelphia has not scored more than five runs in a game since June 7.
BETTING LINE
Philadelphia is a -1.5 run-line favorite, according to Interstat’s game simulator, which projects a 5-4 Phillies victory. The over/under is set at 7½ runs.
SERIES NOTE
The teams continue their four-game set Saturday, with the Mets aiming for their first series win since taking two of three from Atlanta on June 12-14. Philadelphia has won five of its past seven home games against New York.
Sunday’s finale will feature the same matchup before the clubs meet again next weekend at Citi Field.
