Los Angeles Angels at Athletics
WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. (Interstat) — The Los Angeles Angels visit the Athletics on Friday night at Sutter Health Park, opening a four-game series between two teams looking to climb out of the bottom of their respective divisions.
The Angels (30-45) have lost four of their last five games, including an 8-1 defeat Wednesday at Arizona. Right-hander Brett Kerry is a player to watch. In that loss, Kerry threw 4.0 innings, allowing three hits and two earned runs with two strikeouts.
The Athletics (36-38) dropped the finale of their series against Pittsburgh 12-4 on Wednesday, but had won three of their previous four games. Right-hander Luis Medina is a key arm out of the bullpen. In Wednesday’s loss, he tossed 3.0 innings, giving up two hits and one earned run while striking out six. Medina has been inconsistent: he allowed six earned runs in 1.0 inning against Colorado on June 14, but has recorded scoreless outings in five of his last seven appearances.
This season’s head-to-head series between the clubs is close. The Athletics won three of four games in Anaheim from May 18-21. The teams played a scoreless tie Thursday that was likely suspended or postponed.
The Interstat game simulator projects a 7-6 Athletics victory.
The Angels need more production from shortstop Zach Neto, who homered and drove in a run Wednesday. The Athletics counter with center fielder Henry Bolte, who also homered in the loss to Pittsburgh.
First pitch is scheduled for 7:07 p.m. PT. The series continues Saturday and Sunday before the teams meet again next weekend in Anaheim.
