Pittsburgh Pirates at Colorado Rockies

DENVER (Interstat) — The Pittsburgh Pirates (38-37) open a three-game series Friday against the Colorado Rockies (28-47) at Coors Field. First pitch is scheduled for 8:40 p.m. EDT under cloudy skies with a temperature of 83 degrees.

The Pirates enter the weekend riding momentum from a 12-4 rout of the Athletics on Wednesday in Oakland. Right fielder Ryan O’Hearn leads Pittsburgh’s attack after a 3-for-5 performance that included a home run and six RBIs. O’Hearn has been productive over his past six games, going 7-for-18 (.389) with two home runs and seven RBIs, though he went 0-for-5 in a loss to Miami on June 14.

Right-hander Braxton Ashcraft earned the win Wednesday, allowing one earned run on four hits with seven strikeouts over six innings.

The Rockies return home after dropping two of three at Wrigley Field, including an 8-6 loss Wednesday. Designated hitter Sterlin Thompson went 3-for-4 with two home runs and two RBIs in that game. Thompson has shown flashes of power this month, homering in consecutive games against the Cubs, but he has struggled with consistency, going hitless in six of his past nine contests.

Colorado took two of three from Pittsburgh when the teams met May 12-14 at PNC Park. The Rockies won the middle game 10-4 but lost the series finale 7-2.

Betting lines list Pittsburgh as a 1.5-run favorite, with an over/under of 11.5. The Interstat game simulator projects a 4-3 Rockies win.

Following this series, Pittsburgh returns home for a six-game homestand against Seattle and Cincinnati. Colorado hosts Boston for three games before traveling to Minnesota.

Pittsburgh’s projected lineup includes O’Hearn in right field and first baseman Spencer Horwitz, who went 2-for-4 with an RBI on Wednesday.

Colorado will counter with Thompson at designated hitter and third baseman Kyle Karros, who homered in Wednesday’s loss.
