Baltimore Orioles at Seattle Mariners

SEATTLE (Interstat) — The Seattle Mariners look to continue their recent dominance over the Baltimore Orioles when the teams meet Thursday evening at T-Mobile Park.

First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. under clear skies and 74 degrees.

The Mariners (38-36) have won three of their last five games against Baltimore, including a 3-1 victory Tuesday. Seattle right-hander Logan Gilbert will take the mound after winning his last five starts. In his most recent outing, Gilbert allowed one run on two hits over seven innings with 10 strikeouts in a 3-1 win over the Orioles on June 16.

The Orioles (34-40) counter with right-hander Shane Baz, who enters with a 4-6 record. Baltimore is 2-5 in its last seven games and has lost four of its last five road contests.

A player to watch for Baltimore is right-hander Brandon Young, who has pitched effectively in recent outings. Young threw six innings, allowing three runs, in Tuesday’s loss to Seattle. He has a 2.93 ERA over his last five appearances, with 22 strikeouts in 32⅔ innings.

Seattle’s Gilbert has been sharp, posting a 0.82 ERA over his last five starts, striking out 35 in 30 innings. He has held opponents to a .133 batting average in that span.

The Mariners have been favored by 1.5 runs, according to Interstat’s game simulator, which projects a 4-3 Seattle victory. The over/under is set at 8 runs.

Baltimore will look to avoid falling further below .500 as it begins a stretch of nine straight road games, starting with a three-game series at Los Angeles on Friday. Seattle returns home to host Boston for a three-game set beginning Friday.

Thursday’s game is the final contest of a four-game series between the two clubs. Seattle took two of the first three meetings, including a 6-5 win June 9 and a 6-3 win June 8. Baltimore won 7-5 on June 11 and 7-2 on June 10.

The Orioles’ offense has struggled recently, scoring three or fewer runs in five of their last six games. Baltimore ranks near the middle of the American League in runs per game but has been held to one run in each of the last two contests.

Seattle’s pitching staff has a 3.61 ERA, sixth-best in the league, while Baltimore’s bullpen has a 4.12 ERA. The Mariners are 22-14 at home this season.

Probable pitchers: RHP Shane Baz (4-6, 4.18 ERA) for Baltimore; RHP Logan Gilbert (undefeated in last five starts) for Seattle.
