New York Mets at Philadelphia Phillies

PHILADELPHIA (Interstat) — The New York Mets visit the Philadelphia Phillies on Thursday night at Citizens Bank Park, with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. under cloudy skies and a temperature of 80 degrees.

The Mets (33-41) enter the game after a 9-1 win Wednesday at Cincinnati, snapping a two-game losing streak. Left-hander Sean Manaea (1-2, 4.50 ERA) is the probable starter. He will face a Phillies team that owns the best record in the National League East at 40-34 but dropped a 12-4 decision to Miami on Wednesday.

Philadelphia’s lineup has been potent all season, averaging 5.1 runs per game. The Phillies will oppose Manaea, who has struggled with consistency. In his last outing June 12 against Atlanta, he allowed two earned runs over four innings in a no-decision. Manaea has not recorded a win since May 25.

The Mets counter with a bullpen that has been steady, anchored by left-hander Nolan McLean, who is listed as a player to watch. McLean earned the win Wednesday with seven innings of three-hit, shutout ball against the Reds, striking out nine. Over his past five appearances spanning 25⅓ innings, McLean has a 1.42 ERA with 28 strikeouts. However, he is not scheduled to start Thursday, making him a key late-inning option.

For the Phillies, left-handed reliever Tim Mayza is a player to watch. Mayza has been effective in limited duty, allowing no earned runs over his last eight appearances covering 8⅔ innings. He threw two scoreless frames Wednesday against Miami, scattering one hit and striking out three.

The Mets’ offense showed life Wednesday with left fielder Juan Soto going 3-for-5 with two RBIs. The team scored nine runs after managing just three combined in the previous two games.

Philadelphia’s lineup is expected to be at full strength, looking to rebound from Wednesday’s loss. The Phillies have won seven of their last 10.

The Interstat game simulator projects a 6-4 Phillies victory. Despite that, the Mets are installed as a -1.5 run favorite on the spread, with the over/under set at 9.5 total runs.

These division rivals will meet again Saturday and Sunday before the Phillies travel to Washington and the Mets return home to host the Chicago Cubs.

Notes: The Mets are 14-21 on the road; the Phillies are 20-15 at home.
