BASEBALL PREVIEW: White Sox at Yankees

NEW YORK (Interstat) — The New York Yankees host the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday night at Yankee Stadium II with first place in the American League East on the line for the home team. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. under cloudy skies and 69 degrees.

The Yankees (43-27) own the best record in the AL and have won four of their last five games, including an 11-1 rout of Chicago on Tuesday. The White Sox (38-32) are third in the AL Central and have won three of their last four.

Chicago has not announced a starter; left-handers Anthony Kay (6-1, 3.12 ERA) and Carlos Rodón (2-2, 4.50) are both probable. Kay has been sharp in June, allowing two earned runs over his last three starts. Rodón, who missed time with an arm injury, has made two starts since returning, going 1-1 with a 3.86 ERA.

The Yankees will counter with a starter to be announced.

Players to watch

White Sox lefty reliever Sean Newcomb has been dominant out of the bullpen. Over his last seven outings, he has allowed only two earned runs in 13 2/3 innings, striking out 17. He earned the win Sunday against the Los Angeles Dodgers with 2 1/3 scoreless innings.

Yankees infielder José Caballero hit a home run and drove in three runs Sunday at Toronto. In his last 10 games, Caballero is batting .256 with two homers and six RBIs.

Recent results

Chicago took two of three from the Dodgers over the weekend, winning 6-4 on Sunday behind a strong relief effort from Newcomb and Colson Montgomery’s two-run homer. The White Sox are 6-4 in their last 10 games.

New York swept a three-game series at Toronto, winning 8-3 on Sunday as Caballero homered and Ben Rice added a two-run shot. The Yankees are 7-3 in their last 10.

Head to head

Tuesday’s lopsided win extended the Yankees’ dominance in the series. The teams have not met since 2024.

The Yankees are installed as -1.5 run favorites. The over/under is 8.5 runs. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 7-6 Yankees victory.
