Tampa Bay Rays at Los Angeles Dodgers

LOS ANGELES (Interstat) — The Los Angeles Dodgers host the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday night at Dodger Stadium in a matchup of two of the top teams in the majors.

The Dodgers (45-27) enter the game with the best record in the National League, while the Rays (41-27) are second in the American League East. Tuesday’s contest is the second of a three-game series after Monday’s scheduled opener was postponed.

Tampa Bay will start left-hander Justin Wrobleski (7-2). The Dodgers will counter with right-hander Emmet Sheehan.

Rays outfielder Victor Mesa Jr. is a player to watch. He went 2 for 3 with a home run and two RBI in an 8-3 win at the Los Angeles Angels on Sunday. Over his past 10 games, Mesa is batting .217 with one homer and three RBI.

Dodgers right-hander Emmet Sheehan is also a key figure. He took the loss Sunday in a 6-4 defeat at the Chicago White Sox, allowing three earned runs on four hits over five innings with eight strikeouts. Sheehan has a 2-3 record in his past five starts with a 4.12 ERA.

The Rays are coming off a series win against the Angels, taking two of three games in Anaheim. The Dodgers lost two of three at the White Sox.

Los Angeles is projected as a -1.5 run favorite, according to Interstat’s game simulator, which forecasts a 6-5 Dodgers victory. The over/under is set at 8 runs.

After Tuesday’s game, the two teams meet again Wednesday to conclude the series. The Rays then return home for a 10-game homestand against Washington, Kansas City and Arizona. The Dodgers host Baltimore for three games beginning Friday before traveling to Minnesota and San Diego.
