Minnesota Twins at Texas Rangers
ARLINGTON, Texas (Interstat) — The Texas Rangers host the Minnesota Twins on Monday night at Globe Life Park, with both teams seeking to gain ground in their respective divisions.
Texas (34-36) enters the game one game ahead of Minnesota (33-40) in the overall standings. The Rangers send right-hander Jacob deGrom to the mound. DeGrom (2-3, 3.00 ERA) has been effective over his past three starts, allowing two earned runs or fewer in each, including a six-inning, three-hit shutout against Cleveland on June 7. He took a no-decision in Texas’ 3-2 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday but left with the lead after six innings. DeGrom’s only rough outing this season came May 22 at Los Angeles, when he allowed six runs in three innings.
Minnesota counters with right-hander Taj Bradley (1-3, 5.84 ERA). Bradley earned his first win of the season Sunday against St. Louis, pitching 6 2/3 innings and allowing four runs while striking out seven. Prior to that outing, Bradley had lost three consecutive decisions, allowing at least four earned runs in each start.
The Twins are coming off a 5-4 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday, snapping a two-game skid. Catcher Victor Caratini went 1 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs, while reliever Yoendrys Gómez tossed a scoreless inning for the save.
The Rangers lost 6-3 to the Boston Red Sox on Saturday, their second consecutive defeat. Outfielder Wyatt Langford went 3 for 5 with an RBI.
Minnesota has struggled on the road, dropping three of its last four away from home. Texas has alternated wins and losses over its past six games.
Monday’s game is the first of a two-game series between the clubs. The teams will meet again Tuesday before Minnesota travels to Arizona and Texas returns home to face San Diego.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a 4-3 victory for Texas.
First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. CDT.
