BOSTON (Interstat) — The Texas Rangers and Boston Red Sox open a three-game series Friday night at Fenway Park, with first pitch set for 7:10 p.m. under a forecast of rain and 79-degree temperatures.

Texas (34-34) sends right-hander Sonny Gray (7-1, 2.87 ERA) to the mound. The Rangers are coming off a 4-2 victory Thursday at Kansas City, a game in which rookie right-hander Kumar Rocker earned the win despite lasting only 4 2/3 innings. Rocker allowed two runs on five hits with three strikeouts.

Rocker, who has won four of his past five decisions, is a player to watch for Texas. Over his last three starts, he has posted a 1.72 ERA with 10 strikeouts in 15 2/3 innings.

Boston (27-39) has lost four straight and six of seven. The Red Sox dropped a 7-5 decision Wednesday at Tampa Bay despite a strong showing from third baseman Caleb Durbin, who went 3-for-4 with two home runs and two RBIs.

Durbin is a player to watch for Boston. In his past 10 games, he is hitting .321 (9-for-28) with two homers and seven RBIs.

The Red Sox have not announced a starter for Friday.

The game is the first of a six-game homestand for Boston, which has the worst record in the American League East. Texas, meanwhile, is hovering around .500 in the AL West.

The Rangers took two of three from Kansas City earlier this week. Boston has not won a series since taking two of three from Baltimore from June 3-4.

The projected final score according to Interstat’s game simulator is Texas 6, Boston 3. The Red Sox are favored by 1.5 runs, and the over/under is 8.

Friday’s game will be followed by games Saturday and Sunday before Texas returns home to host Minnesota on Monday. Boston will host Toronto next Tuesday.

As of Friday, the Rangers are 4-6 in their last 10 games. The Red Sox are 3-7 in that span.
