Texas Rangers at Kansas City Royals

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Interstat) — The Texas Rangers aim to continue their recent dominance over the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday night at Kauffman Stadium, where a 6:10 p.m. first pitch is expected under a forecast of 82 degrees and rain.

Texas (32-33) arrives having won three straight against Kansas City, all in Arlington last month. The Royals (27-39) return home after splitting a four-game series in Minnesota, salvaging a finale Sunday behind left-hander Noah Cameron.

Texas will start right-hander Nathan Eovaldi (5-6), who seeks consistency after a string of uneven outings. The Rangers also listed right-hander Stephen Kolek (3-1) as a probable pitcher, potentially working in relief or on a piggyback plan. Eovaldi’s last start came May 31 against these same Royals, when he allowed three runs over six innings in a no-decision.

The Rangers are coming off a 10-0 rout of Cleveland on Sunday, keyed by Jacob deGrom, who threw six shutout innings with six strikeouts. Ezequiel Duran drove in three runs, and Justin Foscue homered. Texas has won seven of its last 10 to climb back to .500 territory for the first time in weeks.

Players to watch

For Texas, deGrom has been electric over his last two starts, allowing no runs and seven hits over 11 innings with 14 strikeouts. After a rocky May where he surrendered 10 earned runs in 15 combined innings against the Angels and Astros, the two-time Cy Young Award winner appears to have regained his form. He is not scheduled to start Tuesday but will be available in relief if needed, and his resurgence adds depth to a pitching staff that has posted a 3.12 ERA over the past week.

For Kansas City, Cameron (3-5) will take the mound in a rematch with Texas. The lefty has been brilliant recently, allowing one earned run over his last 13 innings across two starts, striking out 15. He took a hard-luck loss against Cincinnati on June 2 despite allowing one hit over seven innings. In his last outing Sunday, he threw six shutout innings with seven strikeouts in a win at Minnesota. Cameron will need to replicate that efficiency against a Texas lineup that scored 22 runs across the three-game sweep in Arlington.

Series history

Texas swept the Royals from May 29-31 in Arlington, outscoring Kansas City 22-10 in the three-game set. The Rangers won 9-1, 7-6 and 6-3. Over the last six meetings dating to 2024, Texas is 5-1.

The Interstat game simulator projects a 6-4 Texas victory.

Up next

The two teams continue the four-game series Wednesday and Thursday before Texas travels to Boston and Kansas City hosts Houston.
