St. Louis Cardinals at New York Mets

NEW YORK (Interstat) — The St. Louis Cardinals look to build on a three-game winning streak when they open a three-game series against the New York Mets on Tuesday night at Citi Field.

First pitch is set for 7:10 p.m. EDT under cloudy skies with temperatures around 67 degrees.

St. Louis (35-28) has won five of its last six games, including Sunday’s 5-3 victory over Cincinnati. The Cardinals trail Milwaukee in the NL Central but have been solid on the road. New York (29-36) snapped a three-game skid with a 7-3 win at San Diego on Sunday.

The pitching matchup is uncertain. St. Louis listed both right-hander Dustin May (3-6) and right-hander Freddy Peralta (4-4) as probable, with the starter to be announced before gametime. New York had not named a starter.

Players to watch

For St. Louis, right-hander Michael McGreevy is a key figure, if not pitching Tuesday. Over his past six starts, McGreevy is 2-3 with a 3.67 ERA. He earned the win Sunday against Cincinnati, allowing two earned runs over six innings with five strikeouts.

For the Mets, outfielder Carson Benge is on a tear. He went 5-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs in Sunday’s win over the Padres, raising his average to .309. Benge has four home runs and 13 RBIs over his last 10 games.

Head-to-head

The teams split three games April 1-3 in St. Louis, with the Mets winning the opener 4-2 before the Cardinals took the next two games 3-0 and 2-1. The Mets have lost four of their last six at home against St. Louis.

Recent form

The Cardinals have been productive offensively, scoring at least five runs in seven of their last nine games. Outfielder Bryan Torres homered and drove in two runs Sunday.

The Mets (29-36) have struggled to string together wins but have shown power. Marcus Semien homered Sunday and is hitting .276 with 12 home runs.

Simulation projection

Interstat’s game simulator projects a 7-6 victory for the Cardinals, suggesting a close, high-scoring affair.

Up next

The teams continue the series Wednesday and Thursday before St. Louis heads to Minnesota and New York hosts Atlanta for a weekend set.
