DENVER (Interstat) — Shane Drohan pitched five innings of three-run ball, and the Milwaukee Brewers erupted for seven runs in the sixth inning Sunday afternoon to beat the Colorado Rockies 12-4 at Coors Field, completing a three-game series sweep.

The Brewers improved to 40-23, the best record in the National League, while the Rockies fell to 24-42, losing their fourth straight game.

Milwaukee finished with 17 hits, with five extra-base hits in the decisive sixth inning alone. Colorado managed seven hits, with two runs in the first inning and single runs in the fifth and ninth.

Jaden Hill took the loss, allowing four hits and five earned runs in one-third of an inning without recording a strikeout. Drohan earned his third win against one loss, giving up seven hits and three earned runs with two strikeouts over five innings.

Colorado struck first in the bottom of the first. Willi Castro singled on a pop up to first baseman Andrew Vaughn, then Ezequiel Tovar doubled to right field, scoring Castro. After TJ Rumfield flied to center, Hunter Goodman grounded out to first, allowing Tovar to score from third for a 2-0 Rockies lead.

Milwaukee answered in the top of the second. Vaughn singled to center, then Luis Rengifo doubled to center, scoring Vaughn to cut the lead to 2-1. But the Brewers could not add more, as Blake Perkins grounded out to end the inning.

The score stayed 2-1 until the bottom of the fifth, when Braxton Fulford doubled to center with one out. Chad Stevens grounded out, advancing Fulford to third, and Troy Johnston hit a sacrifice fly to left, scoring Fulford to make it 3-1 Colorado.

The game turned in the top of the sixth. William Contreras led off with a single to left, then Vaughn tripled to right, driving in Contreras to make it 3-2. Gary Sánchez then homered to left-center, scoring Vaughn and giving Milwaukee its first lead at 4-3. Garrett Mitchell doubled to right, and after a walk to Rengifo, Blake Perkins bunted for a single to load the bases. Joey Ortiz walked, forcing in Mitchell for a 5-3 lead. Jackson Chourio flied out, but Brice Turang singled to right, scoring Rengifo and Perkins to make it 7-3. Contreras grounded out, scoring Ortiz for an 8-3 advantage. Vaughn grounded out to end the inning, but the Brewers had sent 12 batters to the plate and turned a one-run deficit into a five-run lead.

The Brewers added four more runs in the top of the ninth. Contreras singled to left, Vaughn singled, and Sánchez doubled to left, scoring Contreras. Mitchell then tripled to center, clearing the bases and scoring Vaughn and Sánchez. Rengifo hit a sacrifice fly to left, scoring Mitchell for a 12-3 lead. The Rockies got a solo home run from Hunter Goodman in the bottom of the ninth, his 17th of the season, but it was not enough.
