Kansas City Royals at Minnesota Twins
MINNEAPOLIS (Interstat) — The Kansas City Royals and Minnesota Twins continue their four-game series Saturday afternoon at Target Field.
The Royals (25-38) are in last place in the AL Central but have won three of their past four games, including an 8-6 victory over the Twins on Thursday. Kansas City’s offense has shown signs of life, scoring eight runs in that win and nine in a June 1 victory at Cincinnati.
Minnesota (29-35) has lost four of its past five games and sits in fourth place in the division. The Twins have struggled to string together consistent wins, though Kody Clemens has been a bright spot. He went 2 for 4 with two home runs and two RBIs in Thursday’s loss to the Royals and has three homers over his past six games.
Kansas City’s probable pitchers are right-handers Luinder Avila (1-2, 4.50 ERA) and Joe Ryan (4-3, 3.89 ERA); the team has not announced which will start. Both have been effective of late. Avila allowed two earned runs in 5⅓ innings in his last start, a no-decision against the Reds. Ryan has won two of his past three decisions, including a six-inning, one-run performance in a victory over Cleveland.
Reliever Alex Lange has been a key weapon out of the Kansas City bullpen. In his past 10 appearances dating to May 13, he has allowed one earned run in 9⅓ innings, striking out seven. Over that span, opponents are batting .200 against him.
Clemens, who has played first base and left field, is hitting .275 with 12 home runs and 34 RBIs this season. He has hit safely in four of his past five games.
The weather forecast at game time calls for 81 degrees and cloudy.
Minnesota is a minus-1.5 favorite on the run line, and the over/under is 8½ runs. The Interstat game simulator is projecting a 3-2 Royals victory.
The Royals conclude the series with a Sunday afternoon game before returning home to face the Texas Rangers on Tuesday. The Twins host the Detroit Tigers for a three-game series beginning Tuesday.
