Tampa Bay Rays at Miami Marlins

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (Interstat) — The Tampa Bay Rays and Miami Marlins continue their interleague series Saturday evening at loanDepot Park.

First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. EDT. The forecast calls for clouds and 80 degrees.

Tampa Bay left-hander Shane McClanahan (6-2, 3.12 ERA) is the probable starter for the Rays. Miami has not announced a starter for the game.

The Rays (36-23) enter the matchup having lost four of their last five games, including a 7-2 defeat to the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday. Right-hander Mason Englert will be a player to watch for Tampa Bay after his performance in that loss. Englert allowed one earned run on four hits over five innings, striking out three.

The Marlins (29-34) are coming off a 4-1 win at Washington on Wednesday. Right-hander Max Meyer will be a key player for Miami. Meyer earned the win in that game, allowing one earned run on two hits over seven innings with seven strikeouts. Over his last five starts, Meyer is 3-1 with a 2.84 ERA and 36 strikeouts across 31 2/3 innings.

Saturday’s game is the second in a three-game set. Tampa Bay won the series opener 6-0 on Friday. The Rays have won three of the last four meetings between the clubs this season, with the lone Miami win coming in a 10-5 victory on May 16. Tampa Bay holds a 5-2 edge in the season series.

The Rays will send McClanahan to the mound looking to regain momentum after the team’s recent slide. The Pirates are 11-18 against left-handed starters this season.

For the Marlins, Meyer has been a consistent performer. He has recorded quality starts in four of his last five outings. Miami will look to even the series before Sunday’s finale.

The Interstat’s game simulator projects a 4-2 victory for the Marlins.

Following Saturday’s game, the Rays travel to face the Boston Red Sox on Monday, while the Marlins host the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday.
