Milwaukee Brewers at Colorado Rockies

DENVER (Interstat) — The Milwaukee Brewers, owners of the best record in the National League, open a three-game series Friday night at Coors Field against the Colorado Rockies, a club already deep in a rebuilding season.

First pitch is scheduled for 8:40 p.m. EDT.

Milwaukee (37-23) will start right-hander Brandon Sproat (1-4, 4.91 ERA), who is seeking his first win since May 16. The rookie has allowed at least four earned runs in three of his past four starts. Colorado (24-39) counters with right-hander Ryan Feltner (2-1, 3.86 ERA), who has been a rare bright spot in a rotation that ranks among the league’s worst.

The Brewers are coming off a 12-9 loss Thursday to the San Francisco Giants, but they have won seven of their past 10 games. The Rockies dropped the finale of their road trip Wednesday, 11-4 at the Los Angeles Angels, and have lost eight of their past 11.

A key figure in Milwaukee’s recent surge is outfielder Jackson Chourio. The 22-year-old is riding a six-game hitting streak, going a combined 10-for-17 (.588) with three home runs and nine RBIs over that span. In Thursday’s loss, he went 3-for-4 with two homers and four RBIs. On the season, Chourio is batting .301 with 14 home runs and 42 RBIs.

For Colorado, outfielder Tyler Freeman has been productive. He drove in two runs with a home run Wednesday and is hitting .312 over his past seven games.

Milwaukee has been installed as a -1.5 run-line favorite, according to BetMGM Sportsbook. The over/under for the game is 12 runs. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 6-3 Brewers victory.

The Brewers have scored at least eight runs in four of their past five games, but Coors Field has a history of leveling the playing field. Milwaukee leads the all-time series 139-131 and took two of three from Colorado in their last meeting in Milwaukee last August.

The series continues Saturday at 8:10 p.m. EDT with Milwaukee right-hander Tobias Myers (3-2, 3.38 ERA) facing Colorado left-hander Austin Gomber (2-4, 4.42 ERA).
