San Francisco Giants at Milwaukee Brewers
MILWAUKEE (Interstat) — The last-place San Francisco Giants face a tall order Thursday afternoon at American Family Field, sending right-hander Adrian Houser to the mound against the National League Central-leading Milwaukee Brewers in the finale of a four-game series.
First pitch is scheduled for 1:10 p.m. CDT. The forecast calls for 81 degrees and cloudy skies.
Houser (2-5, 5.79 ERA) will be making his 12th start of the season for the Giants (23-38), who have lost five of their last six games. The 33-year-old has struggled to find consistency, and San Francisco’s rotation has been a weak spot throughout a disappointing first half.
Milwaukee (37-21) counters with left-hander Kyle Harrison, who has been virtually untouchable over his last four starts. Harrison (5-0, 2.08 ERA) has won each of his past five outings, allowing just one earned run over 27 2/3 innings in that span. In his most recent appearance Tuesday against these same Giants, he struck out 12 over 5 2/3 innings of one-run ball in an 8-3 victory.
The Brewers have dominated the series, outscoring San Francisco 24-6 through the first three games. Milwaukee won 8-3 on Tuesday and 16-2 on Monday before the Giants managed a 1-0 win Wednesday night.
A player to watch for San Francisco is right-hander Trevor McDonald, who will be available out of the bullpen. McDonald has been inconsistent lately, taking losses in three of his last five outings. He threw five innings Tuesday, allowing three earned runs on five hits with four strikeouts. Over his last five appearances, he has a 5.74 ERA.
For Milwaukee, Harrison has been the story. The 24-year-old has not allowed a run in three of his last four starts. He pitched seven scoreless innings against the Chicago Cubs on May 20 and six scoreless innings against St. Louis on May 26.
The Interstat game simulator projects a 6-3 Milwaukee victory. The Brewers are a -1.5 favorite on the run line, and the over/under is set at 9.5.
San Francisco travels to Chicago for a three-game series against the Cubs beginning Friday. Milwaukee heads to Colorado for a three-game set at Coors Field.
