Kansas City Royals at Minnesota Twins
BLOOMINGTON, Minn. (Interstat) — The Minnesota Twins host the Kansas City Royals on Thursday night at Target Field, with first pitch scheduled for 7:10 p.m. under partly cloudy skies and 80 degrees.
Minnesota enters the game at 29-34, while the Royals are 23-38. The Twins took the most recent meeting in the season series, a 5-1 win on April 2, though Kansas City won two of the previous three games between the clubs.
Royals left-hander Noah Cameron is set to start. Cameron has been sharp despite a losing record, posting a 1.80 ERA over his last three outings. In his most recent start Tuesday at Cincinnati, he allowed one earned run on one hit with eight strikeouts over seven innings in a 3-4, 10-inning loss. On May 22 against Seattle, he threw six scoreless innings with eight strikeouts, and on May 27 against the New York Yankees, he allowed two earned runs over five innings.
For the Twins, right-handed reliever Eric Orze has been effective in recent appearances. On Wednesday against the Chicago White Sox, he threw 1 1/3 hitless innings with two strikeouts. Over his last four outings, Orze has allowed no earned runs in 5 2/3 innings.
Kansas City is coming off a 3-4, 10-inning loss to the Reds on Tuesday. Besides Cameron, relievers Matt Strahm and Lucas Erceg each allowed one run in an inning of work.
Minnesota was shut out 8-0 by the White Sox on Wednesday. Taj Bradley took the loss, allowing four earned runs over 4 2/3 innings, and reliever Taylor Rogers tossed a scoreless inning.
The Royals dropped their series opener in Cincinnati but had won the day before, 9-2. They have lost five of their last six overall. The Twins have split their last four games.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a 4-3 victory for Minnesota. Despite that, Kansas City opened as a 1.5-run favorite. The over/under is set at 9 runs.
Following Thursday’s game, the teams continue the four-game series with games Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Kansas City then returns home for six games against Texas and Houston, while Minnesota travels to Detroit for three games before hosting St. Louis.
