Pittsburgh Pirates at Houston Astros

HOUSTON (Interstat) — The Pittsburgh Pirates look to build on a series-opening win when they face the Houston Astros on Thursday at Daikin Park. Pittsburgh took the opener 10-6 on Tuesday, with Wednesday’s game postponed. The Pirates (33-28) enter as the hotter team, while the Astros (27-35) seek to snap a three-game losing streak.

Right-handers Jared Jones (0-0) and Kai-Wei Teng (3-3) are scheduled to pitch for Pittsburgh. Houston had not announced its starting pitcher.

Pittsburgh catcher Endy Rodríguez is a player to watch. In Tuesday’s win, he went 2 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs. Over his past 10 games, Rodríguez has multiple hits in four contests, including a 2-for-3, two-RBI game May 14 against Colorado.

Houston designated hitter Yordan Alvarez also starred Tuesday, matching Rodríguez with a 2-for-4, HR, three-RBI night. Alvarez has been productive lately: In his past five games, he has three multi-hit performances, including a 3-for-4, two-homer, two-RBI game May 27 at Texas.

The Interstat game simulator projects an 8-5 Pirates win. Pittsburgh is a -1.5 favorite, and the over/under is 8.5 runs.

The Pirates head to Atlanta for a three-game series starting Friday. The Astros host for a three-game set.
