Rays Host Angels After Lopsided Loss
TAMPA, Fla. (Interstat) — The Tampa Bay Rays look to rebound from a 14-3 shellacking Saturday when they face the Los Angeles Angels on Sunday afternoon at George Steinbrenner Field.
First pitch is scheduled for 1:10 p.m. under cloudy skies with a temperature of 88 degrees.
Left-hander Shane McClanahan (5-2, 3.12 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Angels, who are 23-36. McClanahan is 2-0 with a 1.80 ERA in his past three starts. Tampa Bay had not announced its probable pitcher as of Saturday night.
The Rays lead the season series 1-1 after Friday’s 8-5 win, but the Angels evened the set Saturday behind a dominant performance from rookie outfielder Wade Meckler. Meckler went 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs. Over his past eight games, Meckler is hitting .333 with two homers and eight RBIs, though he is 0-for-11 in his other three games during that stretch.
Tampa Bay (35-20) has lost four of its past five games. First baseman Yandy Díaz has been a bright spot, going 2-for-4 with a home run in Saturday’s loss. Over his past 10 games, Díaz is batting .308 with four homers and nine RBIs.
The Rays are 19-8 at Steinbrenner Field this season. The Angels are 10-20 on the road.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a 6-4 victory for Tampa Bay. The Rays are listed as minus-1.5 favorites with an over/under of 8 runs.
Angels catcher/rehab note: The Angels are expected to get a boost Monday with the start of a six-game homestand against Colorado before a three-game Freeway Series at the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Tampa Bay opens a three-game series Monday against Detroit at home before traveling to Miami.
