Los Angeles Angels at Detroit Tigers

DETROIT (Interstat) — Two teams with identical 21-34 records meet in a day-night doubleheader Thursday at Comerica Park, as the Detroit Tigers host the Los Angeles Angels.

The Angels, who evened this three-game series with a 10-6 win Tuesday, will send right-hander Jack Flaherty (0-6, 5.73 ERA) to the mound for the afternoon game. Left-hander Grayson Rodriguez (1-1, 3.86) is the probable starter for the nightcap. The Tigers had not announced their pitching plans for either game.

First pitch for the afternoon game is scheduled for 1:10 p.m. EDT under cloudy skies, with temperatures near 81 degrees.

Vaughn Grissom has been the Angels’ most productive hitter in the series. The infielder went 3-for-5 with a home run and six RBIs in Tuesday’s victory, his second homer in his past two games against Detroit. Grissom is batting .250 over his last 10 games but has driven in nine runs in that span.

Kevin McGonigle leads the Tigers offensively of late. The third baseman went 3-for-4 with two RBIs on Tuesday and is hitting .310 (9-for-29) over his last seven games.

The Tigers won Wednesday’s series opener 4-0 behind a strong start from Keider Montero, who allowed four hits over seven shutout innings.

Los Angeles has won four of its last five games. The Angels took two of three from Texas over the weekend before splitting the first two games in Detroit. The Tigers have lost seven of their last 10.

After this series, the Angels travel to Tampa Bay for three games starting Friday. The Tigers visit the Chicago White Sox for three games beginning Friday.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a 5-1 Angels victory in the afternoon contest. Detroit is listed as a minus-1.5 run favorite at sportsbooks, with the over/under set at 9 runs.
