Athletics at San Diego Padres

SAN DIEGO (Interstat) — Michael King takes the mound for the Athletics on Sunday evening as they face the San Diego Padres at PETCO Park. The forecast calls for 71 degrees and partly cloudy skies.

King (4-2) enters with a 4-2 record for the Athletics, who are 26-25 overall. The Padres, 30-20, have not announced a starter for the series finale.

Oakland’s Jeffrey Springs is a player to watch after a rough outing Friday in the same ballpark. In that 7-3 loss, Springs allowed four earned runs on three hits over 6 1/3 innings with three strikeouts. Over his past five appearances, he is 0-4 with a 4.79 ERA.

San Diego’s Walker Buehler has been sharp recently. He earned the win Friday against Oakland, allowing three earned runs on five hits over five innings with four strikeouts. Over his past five starts, Buehler is 4-1 with a 3.79 ERA.

The Padres took the series opener Friday 7-3, with Manny Machado homering and driving in two runs. Saturday’s game was not included in the weekend preview. San Diego has won four of its past five games, while has dropped two in a row after sweeping a three-game series at the Los Angeles Angels earlier in the week.

The game projects as a high-scoring affair. Interstat’s simulator predicts a 6-5 San Diego victory. The Padres are installed as -1.5 favorites, and the over/under is 8 runs.

Oakland continues its road trip Monday in Seattle, while San Diego hosts Philadelphia for a three-game set starting Monday.
