Los Angeles Dodgers at Milwaukee Brewers
MILWAUKEE (Interstat) — The Los Angeles Dodgers and Milwaukee Brewers conclude a three-game series Sunday with a split doubleheader at American Family Field, with first pitch of the afternoon game set for 1:10 p.m. CDT and the nightcap scheduled for approximately 7 p.m. The weather forecast calls for 64 degrees and cloudy skies.
The Dodgers (31-20) enter with the second-best record in the National League but dropped Friday’s series opener 5-1 before rebounding with a 4-3 win Saturday to even the set. Milwaukee (30-18) owns the NL’s best winning percentage and has won nine of its past 12 games.
Right-hander Yoshinobu Yamamoto (3-4, 3.72 ERA) is scheduled to start Game 1 for Los Angeles. Yamamoto has allowed four earned runs or more in four of his past six outings. Right-hander Brandon Sproat (1-2, 4.50 ERA) is expected to start Game 2 for the Dodgers, making his seventh appearance of the season. Milwaukee had not announced its probable pitchers for either game as of Saturday.
A player to watch for the Dodgers is right-handed reliever Paul Gervase. In Friday’s loss, Gervase tossed two scoreless innings of relief, allowing one hit. Over his past two appearances, covering five innings, he has permitted one run and struck out five while holding opponents to a .227 batting average.
For the Brewers, right-hander Logan Henderson has been dominant. Henderson earned a win Friday against the Dodgers, throwing five shutout innings with two hits allowed and seven strikeouts. He owns a 1.80 ERA across his past four starts, with 27 strikeouts in 21 innings, and has permitted two earned runs or fewer in each of his last five outings.
The Brewers have won five of their past six home games against the Dodgers. Milwaukee’s offense has averaged 5.3 runs per game during its recent surge, while the Dodgers have scored three or fewer runs in three of their past six contests.
The Interstat game simulator projects a 7-6 Milwaukee victory. The Dodgers are installed as a -1.5 favorite on the run line. The over/under is set at 8 total runs.
Following the doubleheader, both teams open home series Monday: Los Angeles hosts Colorado, and Milwaukee hosts St. Louis.
