New York Mets at Miami Marlins
MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (Interstat) — The New York Mets look to avoid a three-game sweep Sunday afternoon when they face the Miami Marlins at loanDepot Park.
First pitch is set for 1:10 p.m. EDT. The forecast calls for 87-degree temperatures and partly cloudy skies.
The Mets (22-30) have dropped the first two games of the series by scores of 2-1 and 4-1, managing only two runs and nine hits total against Miami’s pitching. New York right-hander Christian Scott (0-0, 0.00 ERA) is scheduled to make his season debut. The rookie was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse earlier this week.
Miami (24-29) counters with a pitcher yet to be announced, though right-hander Max Meyer is on full rest after throwing seven innings of one-hit ball in Saturday’s win. Meyer has won his last four decisions.
Freddy Peralta is a key player to watch for the Mets. The right-hander took a tough-luck loss Saturday, allowing four earned runs over seven innings while striking out nine. Over his last five outings, he has a 4-2 record with a 3.10 ERA and 27 strikeouts in 29 innings.
For the Marlins, Meyer has been dominant. He has allowed just one earned run over his last 13 innings, striking out 14. In his last start, he held the Mets to one hit over seven scoreless frames.
New York lost Saturday despite a solid relief outing from Jonathan Pintaro, who pitched a scoreless inning. Mark Vientos drove in the Mets’ only run with a single.
The Mets are 3-7 in their last 10 games. Miami has won four of its last six.
New York is a -1.5 betting favorite, according to Interstat’s game simulator, which projects a 5-4 Mets victory. The over/under is 8½ runs.
Following Sunday’s game, the Mets return home for a three-game series against the Cincinnati Reds beginning Monday. The Marlins travel to Toronto for a three-game set against the Blue Jays. The teams will meet again next weekend in New York for a three-game series at Citi Field.
