A crowd of 14,761 watched the game that lasted 2 hours, 43 minutes.
Arizona starter Eduardo Rodriguez turned in a dominant outing, working seven innings and allowing four hits with no earned runs and four strikeouts. He did not factor in the decision. Carroll then grounded into a force out, scoring Waldschmidt and giving the Diamondbacks a 1-0 lead. Geraldo Perdomo walked, and Nolan Arenado was hit by a pitch to load the bases, but Ildemaro Vargas grounded into a double play to end the inning.
Colorado tied the game in the eighth inning. With one out, Troy Johnston singled to right field. TJ Rumfield followed with a single to right, moving Johnston to second.
