Los Angeles Dodgers at Los Angeles Angels
ANAHEIM, Calif. (Interstat) — Shohei Ohtani and the surging Los Angeles Dodgers take on the struggling Los Angeles Angels on Friday night at Angel Stadium, with first pitch scheduled for 6:38 p.m. under clear skies and 68-degree temperatures.
The Dodgers (25-18) enter as heavy favorites, carrying a 70.7% win probability according to Interstat’s ELO system, with a spread of -1.5 and an over/under of 8.5 runs.
Right-hander Jack Kochanowicz (2-2, 4.50 ERA) will start for the visiting Dodgers. The Angels counter with left-hander Reid Detmers (2-4, 4.91 ERA), who lasted just 3 2/3 innings in his last start May 8 at Toronto, allowing two earned runs on two hits with three strikeouts.
All eyes will be on Dodgers two-way star Shohei Ohtani, who remains a dual threat. On Wednesday, Ohtani threw seven shutout innings in a 4-0 win over San Francisco, scattering four hits with eight strikeouts. At the plate, however, he is mired in a slump — 5 for 32 with one home run over his past eight games, including 0-for-5 and 0-for-4 performances against San Francisco and Atlanta, respectively.
Ohtani, a 10-time All-Star who signed a record 10-year, $700 million contract before last season, is hitting .287 with 12 home runs and 34 RBIs in 2026.
The Dodgers are coming off a 4-0 shutout of the Giants on Wednesday, in which Mookie Betts hit a solo home run and Santiago Espinal also went deep. Los Angeles has won three of its past four games after dropping four straight to Atlanta from May 8-10.
The Angels (16-28) own the third-worst record in the American League and have lost four consecutive games. They were swept in a three-game series at Cleveland, dropping Wednesday’s finale 4-2. Zach Neto homered and drove in two runs in the loss, while Detmers took the no-decision after allowing three earned runs in 5 2/3 innings.
Detmers, 25, has alternated effective outings with rough starts this season. He struck out eight over 6 1/3 innings in a 4-3 win against the New York Mets on May 2 but has a 5.40 ERA over his past three starts.
The Freeway Series continues Saturday and Sunday at Angel Stadium before the Dodgers travel to San Diego and the Angels host the Athletics for a four-game set beginning Monday.
